bootcampIf you’ve installed Windows via Boot Camp, and now want to delete it and restore the space to your main Mac hard drive, this brief tutorial will guide you through the steps to do just that.

It’s actually quite easy to remove the Windows drive and reclaim all the hard drive space, the only “problem” is that Apple doesn’t make it an obvious process.

NOTE: First, backup everything you want to keep from the Windows partition, because this process will erase everything related to Windows.

  1. Launch the Boot Camp Assistant by going to your Applications -> Utilities -> Boot Camp Assistant.
  2. Click Continue on the initial Boot Camp Assistant Introduction window.
  3. Select Create or remove a Windows partition and then click Continue

  4. Click the Restore button to remove the Windows partition and restore the disk to a single-partition OS X volume.

  5. You’ll be prompted to enter your password – do so and then click OK.

  6. The Boot Camp Assistant will start partitioning…

  7. and then you’ll be back to a single OS X volume.

    After step 2 i get a message:

“Das Startvolume kann weder partitioniert noch in einer Einzelpartition wiederhergestellt werden…” which is in english:

“The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.”

    And i cannot continue.

Will this work to restore a partitioned drive back to only 1 drive if it was not originally partitioned just to divide it – not for Windows? Will any data on the main partition be lost if I can use this method to restore to just one main partition?

    Thanks,
    Diana

I cant do anything with the bootcamp partition. It errors when I try to verify, try to repair, to do anything with it it just fails, bootcamp wont give me the screens you have posted, and When I try to load windows (Holding option during startup) I get a glimpse of a BSOD then it just restarts. I need to erase the partition, what do I do?
    Thanks

I’m having the same problems removing Bootcamp. I get the message:
“The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.”

    And cannot continue

    Sebastion: What are the steps?

Any comments are bappreciated in how to remove Bootcamp partition.

    Thank you
